Urbed – Liveable Cities

This week’s lecture was given by John Sampson who works for an urban design company called URBED. He spoke about creating ‘liveable cities’ and the importance of a balance between public spaces and streets/buildings. The things he outlined that are important when designing an urban public space were: Mobility, enclosure – creating junctions between streets and shop space etc, scale and identity – how spaces will affect views of buildings, scenery etc.

This lecture related well to our current CoLab project and helped us inform an idea that took on all of John’s advice about designing an urban public space.
