Today’s lecture was given by another of our first year tutors, Steve, who talked about how we are all ‘interiorists’ and the different projects and experiences he has had as a designer.
Steve worked for a company in the Emirates and did a lot of work in Dubai. Here he discovered that the turnover time for a project was much shorter than he was used to and that the budget constraints were basically non-existent! Through this however, he learnt to be adaptable as a designer and was able to be as creative with materials and furniture as he liked. This helped him to realise that although we may be studying as interior designers or have a degree in a specific area of design, that in fact we are all part of the creative design world and could potentially design anything as long as we put our minds to it and encourage development along the way.
